Mitt Romney and John Edwards are the top Northwest fundraisers
Romney, in particular, stands out in campaign contributions so far for the 2008 White House race.
Analysis of the contributions to date of leading presidential candidates shows two surprise leaders in the Northwest, John Edwards on the Democratic side and Mitt Romney among the Republicans. Another surprise: Barack Obama is outraising Hillary Clinton by healthy margins. Compared with the Bay Area, Northwest donors are not exactly giving until it hurts. Here are the figures, as broken down by a New York Times analysis:
| Clinton | Obama | Edwards | Romney | McCain | |
| W. Wash. | $89,730 | $216,645 | $247,925 | $260,900 | $77,351 |
| Oregon | $30,103 | $51,565 | $61,658 | $217,320 | $45,600 |
| Bay Area | $1,698,962 | $1,571,083 | $761,083 | $781,450 | $318,250 |
| National | $26,100,000 | $25,700,000 | $14,000,000 | $21,000,000 | $13,700,000 |
