A health-care system everyone would like is the one we already have
The premise is so simple: Stick someone else with the bill. Besides making everyone happy, this approach will solve global warming.
Today, I unveil my health care plan, available for presidential candidates as well as for adaptation by Oregon and Washington governors.
Under my plan, everyone will think they are sticking someone else with the bill. Everyone will be happy.
My plan will not only provide health care for all, it will also stimulate economic growth, create thousands of jobs, save the Social Security system, and fight global warming.
It works by dividing us up into three groups of people:
- The privately insured: I will offer employers tax incentives to create health-care plans. Therefore, covered employees will think they are sticking their employers with the bill.
- The government-insured: I will create two government health insurance programs – Medicare for people over 65 and Medicaid for people too poor to afford health care. Those covered by government insurance will think they are sticking the government with the bill.
- The uninsured: Under my plan, 46 million people will have no health insurance. They will go to hospital emergency rooms for health care and think they are sticking the hospitals with the bills.

Does that mean anything?
Seriously, a discussion proposal from a fellow brain lowering transplantee:
Taking a cue from Medical Marijuana - how about requiring medical insurance for anyone who wants to purchase alcohol? This would require a bar code scan of a driver's license, and hence a record - but that record would be subject to the same privacy rules as any other medical document.
I'd go so far as to extend the same requirements to other vices.
Sure, it wouldn't be perfect, there wouldn't be anything illegal about a private party - but there would also be evidence of who provided the hooch to the drunk driving minor.
And if your friends are supporting your alcoholism, well, perhaps you do deserve to die anyway.
Oh, and no, you can't have my kidneys either.

Cigarette smokers typically last till retirement age, paying into Social Security and pension plans AND paying taxes on their addiction, and soon thereafter are diagnosed with lung cancer, and die quickly and inexpensively.
(Serious aside: my mother died of lung cancer and seemed to have a very good quality of life, except for her last week).

Health insurance is a tax scam: 'Health care/insurance is largely an untaxed fringe benefit given to employees of large corporations, employees of all governmental bodies, union employees, and employees of non-profits. Self-employed folks and small businesses do not get the same full tax deductions as do large employers. ERISA--Employment Opportunity Income Security Act(??) of 1974 governs most all of this. Very few people cut a monthly or quarterly check for their 'coverage' and hence do not know the costs. The entire system is a scam; everyone waits to be eligible for medicare for surgeries then to be 'paid for' by someone else.
