Donations this year were up 70 percent for Crosscut, and way up for the Seattle Foundation campaign.

Thanks, good folks, all 52 of you, who took advantage of the Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG day Wednesday to donate $7,486 to Crosscut. That net figure was up 70 percent from the 2011 donations to Crosscut.

The GiveBIG campaign was up dramatically this year, taking in $7.43 million as opposed to the $3.6 million of last year. The Foundation reports 37,800 donors on that one day, this past Wednesday, to more than 1,200 non profits profiled on the Seattle Foundation website. Planned Parenthood got the highest number of donors, 1,217. The top three categories for donations were Arts ($1.66 million), Health ($1.33 million), and Basic Needs ($1.28 million), according to preliminary figures. Donations came from all 50 states and 23 foreign countries.

GiveBIG also provides a match for these donations. The stretch fund this year, with $300,000 added at the last minute, will be $800,000, provided by the main sponsors of the event, including Microsoft, JPMorgan Chase, and the Bezos Family Foundation

Those who donated to Crosscut will be made annual Members, or their membership status upgraded. Annual membership comes with many benefits, such as discounted tickets and members-only free events. You can join any day with an online donation.
