Meet the interns

Crosscut has a long history of supporting journalism education and training through an internship program that attracts students from all over.
Zachariah Bryan was with us as an intern and went on to become a lead reporter and web editor for the Ballard News-Tribune. Quin Benzel is now a writer with Puget Sound Energy. Erik Neumann is currently working on a graduate degree in journalism at UC-Berkeley. And Alison Sargent was just accepted into a graduate-level journalism program in Paris.
Our latest crop of interns brings youth, intelligence, energy and very often a better way of getting things done. I'm not sure sometimes who's training whom.
Meet the interns…
Vanesha, who is just finishing a stint with Crosscut, is an editorial intern with a passion for social justice and community development. She graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and a minor in Sociology. She's also the Community Outreach Manager for Kollaboration Seattle, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about Asian-Pacific Islanders in the media.
Ashley is a journalism major at the University of Washington. She writes for an on-campus newspaper, and works with the Public Affairs department at the Overlake Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol. She is pursuing a secondary degree in business, and actively volunteers for organizations throughout the Seattle area.
Sara D. Kowdley
Sara, born and raised in Seattle, is 14 years old. She attends Phillips Academy Andover, just north of Boston, where she writes for and helps manage the student-run political magazine. An avid writer, opinionated lover of politics and firm believer in the real need for quality journalism, Sara is thrilled to be working as an intern at Crosscut.
