We love Abby Rhinehart!
The 24-year-old communications officer at Humanities Washington recently won the Washington State Employee Credit Union’s “Get, Give and Get Happy” contest. Which meant that Abby got a $500 prize, and the WSECU donated $1,000 to the organization of her choice.
Abby chose Crosscut! (Have I mentioned that we love Abby?)
When our new benefactress and two WSECU reps arrived at our office this week with THE CHECK, we asked Abby why she picked Crosscut as her giftee. “Because I believe in quality journalism,” said Abby, whose granddad was a longtime editor at the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Also, “I work for a nonprofit, and I wanted [the gift] to benefit a nonprofit that was still scrappy, so the money would make a difference.”
We can assure you, dear Abby, that Crosscut is still scrappy and that your generous gift will make a huge difference. Thank you.
Now, if any of you other Crosscut fans out there would like to follow Abby's lead and make a tax deductible, end-of-year gift to your favorite, nonprofit digital news service, we’d be hugely grateful. Abby is right, you know: “Quality journalism” is worth paying for. And your gift will certainly make a difference.
