"Those same corporate interests will try to overwhelm any ballot initiatives, but there is at least a chance that the truth about the expenditures will come out in time to influence the vote." I agree with the first part of your statement - but after the pause - slim chance ...

A 2/3 majority requirement does not reflect the voice of the people. It puts the legislature into dogfight mode and enables/empowers the lunatic fringe. We've been through this before with Eyman tax initiatives.

When Tim Eyman wins we all lose. The anti-tax fervor that swept the state and the country is evidence to me that: 1. too many people watch too much television 2. radical conservatives own the airwaves Hats off to the Citizens United lawyers, SCOTUS, etc for a job well done ...

On other single issues within the reform package, such as whether ALL children should be insured you see numbers like 87%. The vast majority of Americans know the current health care insurance system is unsustainable ...

I disagree with your reading of the purple state victories and the significance (or not, according to you) of NY-23. The further toward the middle the Democratic candidates pushed in both NJ and Virginia, the worse their numbers looked. Why would young and black voters be motivated to come out ...

Having worked with most of you at Seattle Weekly (1994-2000) and also spent a few years on Bainbridge at YES! Magazine, its comforting to see that all of you (David, Mike, Jill, Skip) have found your way into new media, and are embracing the 'public option' model of support as ...

Great story, thanks for the insider perspective on this struggle. In my humble opinion if you have a passing grade - not an "F" - then you have passed. How does it make sense to hold back someone from graduating when they have made the 12-year journey without 'failing'? Most ...
