Thrifter advice works! Look for randomly placed items...: I was inspired by the thrifters interviewed in this article and swung in the Shoreline Goodwill on Sunday to look for sneakers for my son and jeans for my daughter. As I was waiting for my daughter, I perused the jewelry and ...

RE: Most thrift stores are filled with overpriced junk: Thanks for your response. That is a bummer about Value Village's return policy on electronic items. I am glad that is not yet the case with their apparel. Appreciate the helpful hints on yard sales.

RE: Goodwill on the Ave: It is my understanding that the Goodwill on the Ave will also carry small appliances in order to cater to the University community.

Regarding H&M at U. Village: I just want to add that the new store at U. Village is actually oriented so that the more sophisticated women's items are on the first level. The second level is where you'll find men's apparel and trendier items for women.

Eddie Bauer: I buy Eddie Bauer's flat front chinos and wrinkle-free shirts for my husband. I just find that sometimes that Seattlites defer only to Eddie Bauer and then end up looking like an Eddie Bauer ad instead of finding their own balance of style, trends, and practicality. I think ...

Spills (coffee, et al): I admit that I have to carry an arsenal of disposable Shout wipes in my purse. These come in handy "single serving" packets and work great to clean up most spills and dribbles. I have also heard good things about the Tide pen, but haven't tried ...

RE: I see a pattern here..: Thanks for the comment. I agree that there are some European companies that have worked hard to maintain above-average construction and materials (Hermes is a great example). Unfortunately, the price-point can be out of reach for most folks. Glad to see someone else is ...

RE: I see a pattern here..: Thanks for the comment. I hear you and see the pattern myself. I was just thinking that I really miss a lot of my fall clothes which have a much better range in quality. My biggest recommendations to clients is that they need to ...

RE: Fuel in Wings: I love efficient use of space. I just have to adjust to the idea of being surrounded by highly flammable liquid. Great idea about the suit. Unfortunately, NASA EVA spacesuits are sooo unflattering. This one has possibilities: One giant leap for space fashion

RE: Thanks!: Thanks for the comment. It can be a bit conservative for some, but I like the structure of the collared shirt with a cardigan. I always try to "pop" the collar in the back, so that it stays v-neck in front. This and some fun jewelry helps it ...

RE: No one asks, apparently...: Thanks for your thoughtful comments. If it helps to assuage your worried mind, let me quickly run down the "Mommy Guilt" checklist I had to overcome to make sure I wasn't ruining my daughter's future as one might think: - Is daughter two to three ...

RE: Great ideas: Thanks for your comment. The Boy Meets Girl sketch is hilarious. The line: "Bald. You're bald, fellah. Bald, bald, bald, you're bald as a ping-pong ball, are you bald" gets us all giggling.

RE: Great ad: Sorry for the delay of this response -- technical difficulties. This piece was primarily meant to illuminate this Northwest tradition for those folks who weren't raised in the area. That said, you are quite right, it was good press for Nordstrom. Where are my free shoes??

RE: Online?: Sorry for the delay of this response. Crosscut was having some technical difficulties. Answer: Yes. The Anniversary Sale begins at 5:00AM PST @ www.nordstrom.com. Be prepared for some slow downs on their site as they deal with a surge of shoppers. Note that Nordstrom.com charges $5 shipping per ...
