Progressi_ive... The massive giveaway is of resources, which could be leveraged to better focus our energies to actual solutions to problems that will soon overwhelm our city. The sad irony of the cost of this missed opportunity is that the tunnel solves no real problem and does so poorly.

Mhays…I know very few supporters of the Surface/Transit option who think or hope that cars are going to go away. This argument, that people are trying to take away your car is a classic straw man. We currently have in the neighborhood of 180,000 lanes miles of roadway in Washington ...

I agree with the general outline of the proposal. My concern however is that what so frequently happens is we enact the easy, get tough portions and never quite get around to the harder but more meaningful reform of fundamental systems and services. Why not start there first and then ...

Thanks for this article. Yes, Michelle's shift to hard-right has been on my mind a lot. She and I met when I was running the medical marijuana campaigns in the late 90's. I found her engaging, and indeed, a breath of fresh air in Seattle. I was hopeful that her ...

There's something rich about "going back in history" to determine the true roots of the term "progressive." Language changes. Philosophically, "liberal" as a core term is meaningless. Progressive defines a core philosophical truth for me, and therefore, I use the term. It also contrasts nicely, both politically and philosophically with ...

Vicki...I don't know who you're referring to, but I don't blame much on the State level on Republicans; because Republicans are nowhere to be found in this State, and with good reason. They don't share our values, haven't shown any ability to intelligently involve themselves in substantive issues, and are ...

Notice something here...Carlson didn't even mention one thing that Republicans must do to regain any momentum in Washington State. This is typical...the Republicans have nothing at all to offer this State. Nothing. They're on the sidelines, moaning and complaining, but not involved in any way in the substantive issues in ...

Brevity?: Oh...and btw, has anyone at Crosscut heard that brevity is an artform? This piece could have been edited down to a more manageable size without losing the arguments. Distill, people. This is the web you're publishing on.

It's not either/or: This is not an either/or argument. MacDonald touted his newly-acquired lifestyle as a bus-rider yesterday, and it shows that he's just now starting to think about transit in a way that he's probably never thought before. And, apparently, he likes his new toy but doesn't seem to ...

RE: Bring on Rossi...: No, I'm recommending that Republicans take a long, hard look at their core ideology. Small Government? How about the massive Govt. required to pursue the doctrine of pre-emption? How about the massive spending of Nation building? How about the intrusiveness into personal lives that are represented ...

Bring on Rossi...: Mr. Vance...with all due respect, that's it? Your hope is pegged on "maybe Rossi can win?" I say bring him on. I am hoping that the R's in this State put their eggs in that basket again. Rossi's only strength in 2004 was a fatigue with the ...

Irony...: There's an irony in Berger's calling for a vision of hte past on a fair that was explicitly celebrating the future. If we want to be true to the spirit of the Seattle Center, we look forward, not back.
