The lamprey, close to extinction, could bring down NW salmon too

Interesting thought. None of the biologists I talked to mentioned rocks made slippery by runoff as a problem, though it sounds plausible. Where they really need to cling to rocks is in fast moving water and cascades; perhaps oily rocks are less likely in that setting. This is not to ...

Re straws: waiting for the first report of someone poking themselves in the eye while savoring the aromas. Wondering if more folks will get on the reusable bottle bandwagon, which doesn't seem so bizarre.

Putting Grocery Outlet to the taste (and value) test

Posted Mon, Oct 31, 9:06 a.m.

We used to pop into our Yakima G. O. only occasionally over the past few years. There were some definite finds. A big box of unfolded puff pastry for dirt cheap. Chocolate soy milk for under a buck a quart. But what's really interesting to me now is that the ...

Since "organic" has been partly co-opted by industrial agriculture, it is important to emphasize the holistic aspect of BD. But when Mr. Holden notes BD's "respect for the land ...

A sustainable new wine region takes root in Eastern Washington

I like your suggestion, Gary. There are several different shades of "organic" and "sustainable" that grape growers can aspire to, including one specific to the Northwest. Incidentally, a couple more AVAs are in the works: Okanogan Valley & Ancient Lakes.

I have seen the editors quickly thank a commenter who corrects spelling errors. I, the sole author whose fingers caused the error, do hereby thank you, SophiaKatt, for pointing it out. Why, in this age of spell checking software, this error persisted beyond its first keystrokes, is a convoluted story ...
