Dr. Locke, I'd love to see people start to hold corporations accountable. Instead, we get the kind of corporate hero-worship/brand loyalty displayed upon the death of Steve Jobs. This video is profane, but George Carlin comes pretty close to hitting the nail on the head- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5Ujn2UxTcY&feature;=youtube_gdata_player

The point that hasn't been made is that 2004 was a complete anomaly in Beltre's career. He's pretty much a .255-.270 hitter with a few exceptions. On a similar note, you can't help but wonder if Griffey and A-Rod left in part because they thought their own numbers would drop ...

Well said, Judy. As a former social worker and current government worker, I've been continually frustrated by the slow pace of change in my work experiences, whether in people or processes. These are wise words for anyone who seeks to fix things fast.

Well said. The whole thing disgusts me and also makes me think of our decline as a society. Having just served on a jury, I was alarmed by my fellow jurors' inability to understand circumstantial evidence. Some people just seem to think that if you don't have it on videotape, ...

Ditto, Karen Cooper. As the party that believes in a larger role for government, Dems MUST insist on cutting waste, fraud, and abuse. They fail to do so at their own peril.

Ditto on the 8%. Too many government programs are on autopilot. It's time to rethink nearly everything and look at how incentives can improve these programs.

What's happening in Wisconsin has nothing to do with highway construction. It's about maintaining the "right" to receive hefty pensions, perpetual wage increases, and to be protected from being fired except under the most egregious circumstances. I stand with the people of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and elsewhere who have lived ...

I'm glad he is more focused on filmmaking than social commentary. He is a superb filmmaker and as he has focused more on that he has directed some fantastic movies- Miracle at St. Anna, Inside Man, to name two.

With all due respect, Mr. Muro, this appears to have been written by an academic who has never worked in politics. How about a few more specifics like reforming public education, taking on public employees' unions, and limiting health care spending?

This is an excellent piece. It's a perfect example of why the stimulus has not hit the proverbial ground as fast as it should. So many regulations and efforts designed to stamp out waste and corruption end up creating waste. Good job, Roger!

Love it, jmrolls!!!!! Great stuff. On the off chance that anyone is still reading this, I strongly support progressive taxation and oppose Obama's extension of the tax cuts for those earning over $250,000 per year. I also believe in a hefty estate tax- income and asset inequality are major problems ...

Entertaining commentary. I love how I am castigated as a Tea Party supporter and a Republican. I guess that's accurate if working on the presidential campaigns of Obama ('08), Kerry ('04), Gore ('00), Bradley ('00), Clinton ('96 and '92), Dukakis ('88), and Gephardt ('88) makes me a Tea Party supporter ...

Going off on a somewhat related tangent here, I watched the movie "A Day Without a Mexican" last night. It is a shame that we demonize/punish those who come here solely to create a better life for themselves and their families.

Boeing's involvement in this is different than that of providing just another product employed in the process of committing torture. It bears some responsibility for its role in this. For one thing, its pilots and the staff who agreed to the rendition all have top secret security clearances and have ...

Pepper, note that I used the word "some" in describing the players. There are plenty of good kids who are star athletes, but I truly believe that the coddling of star athletes, which often starts at an early age, feeds a kind of entitlement mentality that sometimes reveals itself in ...

As a huge sports fan and second-generation UW alum, I have to say that Jerramy Stevens almost single-handedly drove me from being a Husky football fan. I suppose it is not at all surprising that the players act like the coddled individuals we treat them as, but it is disappointing ...

Great commentary. Could also be said about Congress. The only difference is that Congress has even less incentive to reform its spending practices because it can deficit spend in perpetuity.

The stimulus package has swallowed up Obama's agenda. And he is now getting blamed for the vast expansion in the size of government, which, of course, started under Republican leadership. It's time for Obama to recalibrate and get serious about the federal deficit.

Seattle's waterfront is a filthy place. A haven for seagulls and their droppings. That being said, I LOVE driving across the viaduct. It's exciting to know that you are taking your life in your hands while driving THROUGH a city skyline.

To rail against big business and the moderate Gary Locke after a month in which 600,000 Americans lost their jobs is ridiculous. Yes, corporate excesses created many of the problems we are experiencing now, but we need businesses to succeed and create jobs. In the current climate, a moderate voice ...

Yes, Mr. Vance, you keep making this argument over and over again. It is sad that the Republican Party has failed to adapt to modern times.
