George Gilder was a founder of the Discovery Institute. He attended Harvard, but the first sentence pretty much demonstrates that it did not take. It seems that in every case there was precisely hubris in that they were system failures in the face of unexpected (un-engineered for) conditions. Hubris is the overwhelming arrogance that says, "I know and understand and have 'designed for' everything that can happen, trust me"
