Speaking from a community activist perspective, the last 3 years under Nickels very much has hurt SE Seattle. His vision to become the greenest city in the country subordinated all common sense. Instead of making sure that a city works via police coordination, funding coordination, upzoning for developers and whose ...

Well, well. Lots of complaints from newcomers, as expected. Why not the usual approach of, "it's not you, it's me?". Instead it is us and not you. We are passive-aggressive, but you're not! We're introverted, but you're not! In fact, somewhere it lands in the middle. Perhaps non-Seattlites expect a ...

When I get asked that standard question (doesn't it rain there all the time?), I usually respond, "That's right" with a smug look on my face. 8 times out of 10, they get it and say, "You're just saying that so we don't move there,...right?" And I say again, "That's ...

By all means, we should vote in a republican governor at the same time we likely get a democratic president and democratic majority. Good thinking, Ted! That should really create a good working relationship between the federal and state systems right when we go into the economic tanker. Apparently your ...

Sentimental, the main bone of contention is "the vision" in the first place. Social services have a vision: it includes designating Rainier Valley as a blighted area, supporting eminent domain and creating a convenient "cluster" of their service facilities because Nickels wants to put them here. They also rubber-stamp DPD ...

Mr. Hoole, I'm glad you brought up the mirage of objective investigative journalism here. You do use public statements, while at the same time conveniently claiming an "inside track" to what is being said off-the-record as well and your first-hand experience on NIMBY activism. Your long piece draws on many ...

BTW, the situation here in SE Seattle is exactly like what happened in South Lake Union. Substitute "Vulcan" for "social services" and you have the same take-over situation in one community. Just because they serve the poor doesn't mean they aren't willing to service interests that perpetuate their own livelihood ...

This opinion piece is a smear filled with facts as much as the John Kerry swift-boating smear was by the ignorant and prejudice republicans that attacked him to suit their agenda. Shame on Crosscut for publishing this without doing any fact checking. After it's all said and done (if I ...

Vulcan designed this $200MM project: Does Mercer Street need to get "fixed" with that nice broad landscaped boulevard in the middle of the street? Part of the problem with the pricetag of this project, is that the City has to purchase land for purposes of creating the wide easement to ...
