Mormons for the White House: comfortable with that?

Posted Thu, Oct 20, 11:56 a.m.

John F. Kennedy, when running for the Presidency, famously declared that he would ignore any admonitions coming from the leadership of his church. Is it not desirable that we require ALL candidates to make such a declaration?

Swedish-Providence questions remain after Planned Parenthood move

Posted Tue, Oct 18, 2:59 p.m.

Why is it that so many religious denominations want to impose their values on those who are not members of their churches? Or is it that they fear that such impositions are the only way to keep their congregants in line because the latter are not obedient to doctrine? Buster ...

Valdez writes: "the city has more than 2,000 miles of sidewalk. After it rains, water hits all that pavement and it starts rolling around, picking up the petroleum drippings from cars, pesticides from lawn care products, and a legion of other things that end up harming fish and other creatures ...

What would real reform of Seattle police practices look like?

Posted Tue, Feb 8, 2:17 p.m.

If John T. Williams, who was simpy walking across the street minding his own business, was shot because "The cops have every reason to be on edge", I'm afraid that most of us need be concerned when walking Seattle streets. Buster G.

Religious right drives young from churches

Posted Thu, Oct 21, 3:26 p.m.

Putnam's and Campbell's Ivy League prestige does not ensure that their findings, which contradict that of others, are correct. It remains highly likely that, rather than being repelled by the Religious Right, our youths' secularism is a result of their unwillingness to accept the existence of a figment in the ...

Selling Seattle to save its finances

Posted Wed, Oct 20, 4:29 p.m.

I am stunned that Berger, who has previously expressed concerns about the corruption of our environment, is now prepared to encourage further degradation of our urban space by proliferation of City fostered advertising. Don't we have enough of the abuses of commercialization in our everydat lives? Perhaps we can look ...

Islander4libertarians writes: "Government Transit is unsustainable. It requires huge subsidies to the point that the revenue collected is very minor. Are consumer-driven churches betraying the American soul?

Posted Tue, Aug 3, 5:01 p.m.

Sorry, Quinn, you are much too long-winded for me to bear with you. Moreover, I cannot give credence to someone who believes "atheism is itself a religion", a patently absurd notion.
