RE: oses: I've heard that it does but haven't tried it. Ladybugs always take care of the aphids here.

RE: Observations: Thank you. You are a veritable encyclopedia of ideas. I love gerlic too much to not plant it -- for now anyway Will look for the book, and if I find it, summarize what I can. It feels like irrigation is also becoming a luxury, even here in ...

Right Action: Thank you for your comments, you two. One of the components of the Buddhist Eightfold Path is Right Action. It is about being clearheaded enough to see what a specific situation calls for. Every situation calls for something different. In this instance, kids, the dog, and visitors all ...

RE: "There is no try, there is only do" -- Yoda: Today I am up to my elbows in rotting food, preparing compost to spread over a patch of former yard that will soon be home to garlic bulbs. Tomatoes are drying in the sun. Basil is drying next to ...

RE: Think It Over...: Fly in the ointment: what are you doing I wonder? I will think my views over, thanks to your thoughtful, cranky, early morning response. I will look for Overshoot to read. And, until I know better, I'll plant trees.

RE: Camellia sinensis: I've ordered four plants for next spring -- from Territorial Seeds down in Cottage Grove, Oregon. The folks down there told me it would be good to order early because they sell out. (A tea plant business could be a great business to start here. I'd be ...

RE: City Birds: When I lived in inner city Detroit we used to have a hawk that would sit on the fence behind the abbey and eat up the river rats, pigeons, and mice that caught his eye through the afternoon. We loved his company until we started to raise ...

Being There is on my short list: You are the fourth person in the last month to suggest that movie to me. There must be something in the air. I'm headed to the library tomorrow to see if I can find it. I remember loving it but that's about all. ...

Nightmares and such: You can grow large bamboo in the northwest (I know because I've tried to get rid of it) but I don't know how large. Ian Connor seems to know everything about bamboo and particularly what can and does grow in the northwest. Here is his website: www.connorbamboo.com

RE: Bamboozled: I love the idea of bamboo floors as a solution to dust mites! I've seen bamboo countertops in Seattle and they were breathtaking. They were in one of the ecology friendly condo buildings on the north side of Lake Washington. I think of bamboo as the grass that ...

RE: Hmmm.: You know, I think some of those stings were wasps (especially the ones on the mouth when I was slurping down popsicles), but mostly we stepped on honeybees. Actually we ran, pounced and stomped. It wasn't that we didn't deserve the stings, its more that I miss the ...
