It seem pretty obvious that mhays is safe in his Belltown condominium and knows nothing of what the City attempted in SE Seattle a few years ago. While he may dismiss Hizonner's CRA proposal merely "infill within the existing", this proposal would have destroyed the lives of countless indivivuals and ...

RE: This is not productive.: Mayor Nickel's Mercer Mess proposal is redevelopment masquerading as tranportation improvements. The community councils in both Queen Anne and Magnolia (the 2 communities who should benefit the most from a fix) have already expressed their disapproval of the proposal. Other communities around Seattle are also ...

RE: "Reasonably Fast, Dependable and Safe" and Going Where You Want to Go (BTW): Yes, there is "something wrong with infrastructure investment to increase efficiency" when the citizens of the region were told that by passing Sound Move they would be decreasing congestion and make life easier on the roads. ...

"Reasonably Fast, Dependable and Safe" and Going Where You Want to Go (BTW): A little over a year ago, the Seattle Office of Housing did an "affordability" study for certain sections of the City. Within that report were 2 maps (based on census tracts) which showed where Seattle residents worked, ...

RE: Fact of the Day: 95% of homes in King County have easy transit access: Finally, someone states the obvious. People will ride any type of transit if it takes them where they want to go. That is the number one driver. I live in the Rainier Valley. A light ...

RE: Missing something in analysis: Charlie, thank you for your clarification. With that in mind, I would hope you could start using the the term "workforce" as opposed to "affordable".

"Thinkng in terms of moving people": As a non-native Seattlite, I must confess that I did not arrive here on foot, and I highly doubt most of my fellow non-natives did so either. And I also doubt that when we all got to our favorite restuarant, or neighborhood watering hole, ...

RE: Correcting a Straw Man travel time: U district to downtown: sjenner, you raise a great point about the "dozens of 50 story residential towers" around the light rail corridor. Believe it or not, I think out so-called leaders are planning just that, but slightly modified. I belive Councilmember McIver ...

RE: Missing something in analysis: Charlie, in your response you mention "middle income" and "affordable housing" in the same sentence. According to most of the "political class", these two terms are mutually exclusive. "Affordable housing" is such housing that is accessable to those individuals and families earning 60% or less ...

RE: self-sufficiency: Thank you Dr. Morrill. While Conlin's proposals are laudable, they are totally unrealistic. How much food is produced here in the greater Puget Sound region? Not much. I guess we could all survive on $30 - $40 per pound salmon.

RE: Inclusionary vs. Incentive Zoning: The Seattle Planning Commission recently completed their "Affordable Housing" study (in late February) and you can find it on their web-site. They did investigate density and affordability in other cities, and the results weren't that impressive (by my estimation). The Council will soon have the ...

RE: Land, Land Land!: "Spot on" on the reason everything is so expensive. I'd have to look into your specific remedy. Sounds like it's possible, but again we get back to the definition of "affordable". This is a conversation this City and community as a whole is going to have ...

Help Us Please!: All I can say to Ted is: Will you please run for Mayor, or County Executive, or Governor. This region is screaming for some common-sense leadership on a variety of issues, and your voice is that clarion in the wilderness.

RE: HELP ME OUT: The percentages are of median income. I believe that Seattle's median income is around $55K, so 65% is around $35K. The affordability comes from then allocating approximately 1/3 of income toward housing. On the cost of land, dirt is expensive everywhere in Seattle. In Columbia City ...

Affordable?: Affordable Housing. What's the definition of "affordable"? That's the elephant in the room that no-one is talking about. Consider the following: 1) according to the Seattle Planning Commission (and I suspect every single pol in City Hall) "affordable" means 0%-60% of meadian income, 2) another definition of 0%-60% (according ...
