@CHarlton: Robert Siegel isn't a reporter. He's a host. He reads the introductions to stories by other reporters (the reporters also write the introductions.) Occasionally, he does a two-way (host interview) with a guest in studio, but even his questions are the product of a team of producers, and the ...

@Carlton Price: Really? You think NPR has a pro-Israel bias? Then why does the Israel lobby think NPR has a pro-Palestinian bias? Heck, this pro-Israel outfit organized a BOYCOTT of NPR... http://www.camera.org/index.asp?x_context=4&x;_outlet=28 In my experience (and I have a lot of experience on this score, believe me), people with a ...

Left or right -- either side can find the bias they're looking for when they put NPR under the microscope. You contend that NPR is quick to discipline those who express leftist points of view, and to let right-wing indiscretions slide. When you say that, you're willfully ignoring the fact ...

I mean, Melchior. Sigh... it's already fading away.

Sorry, RevSandy, but what you advocate is exactly what's driving the next generation away from mainline Protestantism. I'm relatively liberal, Lutheran, a P.K. And what I want -- NEED -- is a congregation that's theologically open-minded but liturgically conservative. The electric guitars and bongo drums make Sundays painful for me. ...

Let's call the Chihuly museum what it really is: a display case for overpriced glass knick-knacks. It's schlock, it's commercial, it's assembly-line art a la Thomas Kincaid. It would be truly embarrassing to have that thing at the base of Seattle's premiere landmark.

What bunk. Leave the quantitative analysis to the real sciences, please.

In the SeaTimes, Chihuly's flak said the proposed museum would be filled with "$50 Million dollars worth" of glass art. That says it all. Chihuly is right up there with Thomas Kincaid in the pricey schlock sweepstakes. My kids love the Fun Forest. If they have to tear it down, ...

This isn't surprising, if you look at the general dearth of academic institutions in the Northwest. The NW was settled so late, it missed out on the wave of colleges and seminaries that were founded in the midwest after the Civil War. Those institutions have now mellowed, and are the ...

Hey Bubbleator: The reason people get quiet when they hear you own a gun is that they're scared. For them and, more urgently, for you. Because the fact that you own a gun means that you're statistically WAY more likely to kill somebody (most likely yourself, since the stats show ...

Yeah, the conversion to digital is just the last nail in the coffin of traditional TV. I stopped watching some time ago (broadcast AND cable). There's nothing more depressing than turning off the TV after an evening of channel surfing and realizing you've wasted three hours of your life. TV ...

Yay! My strategy of ignoring Twitter in hopes it would flame out are being richly rewarded. Think of all the hundreds of hours I haven't sacrificed to the encoding and sending of useless trivia. Now let's hope we can kill facebook and the like the same way. Stupid time-sucks. Can ...
