You've got to be kidding me. Where to begin with this? Firstly, you've incorrectly stated that this is a party nominating contest - even though you later go on to acknowledge the top-two primary's wide-open nature. There's no need for a cloak-and-dagger "GOP source" re: poll results. At least two ...

The Ron Sims income tax plan was "brilliant"? Didn't Sims lose the dang primary over that bit of brilliance?

Uhh, King Co elections has been this slow for some time. Just because they got rid of polling places for this year, doesn't mean most people didn't ALREADY vote by mail. They did. The difference this year is one of degree, not substance. But leave it to Seattleites to think ...

Floyd's only partially right on these offices being paths to the top political spots. While three of the past five governors have been county executives, only two of those were from King (Locke, Spellman); Booth Gardner ascended from Pierce County exec. Of the nine governors since WWII, those are the ...

So why not just exempt the personal identifying details of constituents who contact a lawmaker? That's not what the Legislature has now. They have a blanket secrecy provision that means anything they don't want to share, they keep secret.

Oh, and for the author: The main point of jmercier's original post is this -- Chasan should not just take the good senator's word as gospel if he claims no one from the press answered him. Go look at the tape -- Rowland Thompson gave a comprehensive and very well-reasoned ...

I'll give a more usable link to Mercier's blog post: http://bit.ly/tfctR To R on Beacon Hill's points: 1)Whistleblowers are covered already by whistleblower laws. 2)It is flat untrue that special interests don't communicate with legislators in written form. In fact, lobbyists send emails to legislators while the legislators are on ...

John, I have to refute your refutation a little bit. You certainly were NOT suggesting merely that a newspaper give this report "at least a guest column." First, you basically accused the Seattle Times staffer who showed late and left early of shoddy work (albeit without naming her). The implication ...

Absolutely ptdoug, the loss of professional journalists is a real and significant problem. And you've shown some actual examples of why it is a problem. Mr. Hamer, however, did not. In times like these, with much-reduced newsroom staffs, it is essential that news media not only ignore, but AGGRESSIVELY ignore ...

The fundamental assumptions of this piece are wildly off-base, and represent a fundamental misunderstanding of what the news media does, and should be doing. A report from some civic or nonprofit organization serves a purpose in its sphere. But its mere existence is not "news." As a "news" event, things ...

You can't amend the state constitution by initiative. It has to be initiated by the Legislature, with a 2/3 vote of each chamber, and then go on the ballot for majority approval. The Democrats don't have a supermajority now, and even if they did, getting enough of those members to ...
