"Obama is the master of transient, misleading debate, which will favor Democrats this year. But Republicans can prevail by offering voters a reality-based campaign." Easily the funniest line I have read so far this election cycle. What "reality" do Republicans espouse, exactly? That our healthcare system is great as is? ...

As a long-time hiker and climber, and someone who believes we came far too close to wiping out our forests during the 1970s and 1980s, I'm sympathetic to the enviros who are opposing road reconstruction, lookouts, etc. But I think they're really over-reaching. Loss of roads makes many hiking trips ...

Well, said, Cary. The corollary to your commentary is the canard that "real Americans" are found only in rural areas, which you now see playing out in the presidential race.

Yeah, take a seat. On the bus. Then get up and take another seat. On a different bus. Repeat three times -- you are THERE!! I'm a huge transit fan and cycling commuter. Just last week I took light rail to and from the airport and loved it. But buses ...

Actually, it's a shame ZGF didn't make it with the "black turtleneck" crowd. Super-competent, in tune with the region, excellent urban skills.

Amen to all this. I bike-commute from Belltown to Redmond (Microsoft) via Alaska Way, Jackson, MLK Way, I-90. The Seattle portion is a nightmare of broken pavement, bad expansion joints, metal plates over the roadway, potholes, and more. Anybody who advocates more cycling in Seattle, and is a member of ...

Well, the larger point here is: Are there enough journalists left to cover ANY event, regardless of whether it is defined as "news" in some subjective way. The answer: Of course not. The PI gone, the Times much trimmed, the TV stations focusing on whatever "bleeds." Good grief, the entire ...

Bozeman IS mostly right. And he has a history of being something of a seer. As mayor of Bellevue many years ago, he fought the Seattle-centric assignment of carpool lanes when the "new" I-90 bridge was finished. Turns out he was right -- the "revese" commute now often is the ...

Hafta kind of agree with Margery. Did anybody ask the dogs what they thought of all this? And that's apart from any argument that "well, they just love to run!" Beacause I am sure they do. Just not until they die.

Totally agree with Douglas Tooley. The city should take pro-active steps to encourage tree-planting, not make it happen by fiat. Personally, I believe trees ARE a value. So are sunlight, views, in some cases freedom from avalanches of autumn leaves.
