Private special inspectors are required for the kind of work that is the source of structural problems here. It would probably be too expensive for the city to keep such inspectors on staff, though perhaps they could be hired as consultants on an as needed basis rather than being hired ...

Yay! Architectural criticism! I think most of our profession is more grown-up that this, but if the architectural firms mentioned even hint at a lawsuit this time, gently remind them of the PR fallout from a certain controversy a few years back. Free speech lives!
