Gasp! Encourage development in Seattle? What about the homeless?

Yeah, same old story. My technique since I'm retired, is sit at the computer, checking out websites, and use as much of their time as possible. I know it doesn't matter, but at least I get some satisfaction.

Having worked in a construction trade (now retired) I became very bitter to those who made fun of me for being unemployed. It was the nature of the business, but even my parents could not tolerate my attitude (they had a great idea how I should be a janitor). But ...

All good stuff. But as with all good ideas, they would require participation. My experiance with SPD, from the patrolman, to the sargeant, to the Mid level officers, to OPA, to Nick Licata and Tim Burgess: They just choose to intimidate and ignore me. Good luck though.

I contacted Burgess years ago about an issue (admitttedly minor) I had with the police department. I was blown off, and told people will just have to be forced to do things. He's been living off from 7 years with the police department as if he was Serpico. For being ...

It seems like developers need government assistance, in the form of roads and utilities, to make these developments work. With government out of money, how do they get installed?

Thats the deal. Seattles' half ass attempt at being bike friendly is the worst of both worlds. For example, the sharrows. They put the bicyclist in an uncomfortable and dangerous situation, and agravate motorists. I asked Tim Burgess one time about the plastic bag ordinance. He said we'll just force ...

I'm retired construction, it's amazing this is even an issue. Common sense seems to be an archaic idea. I'm a bicylist, so am happy to see bike facilities. I also drive a full size SUV as Seattle roads are about the same as Forest Service roads, and I'm just waiting ...

Everytime I see Bruce Harrells' proposal I just have to laugh. I read about it around a year ago in a Ballard paper. Thinking it was a good idea, I emailed Mr. Harrell with my support. He failed to respond to the email. Maybe I should have written a letter.

As a 56 year old retired construction Laborer, I've always been active. I just picked up a two month handicapped placard, my first. I can ski, I can bike, I just am having difficulty walking. I've seen abuse at the ski area disabled spots, but I've also seen a lot ...

I guess I need to read Crosscut a little closer, I don't have a clue what these comments mean.

Gotta agree with Geezer. We will need to make some tough choices on allocating our public resources. Adults have had their chance, we need to direct our efforts to help young people succeed.

After many communications with the City Council I just don't understand why they wouldn't want to have some debate. Richard Conlin has these little quotes about democracy and such. Every Email I send gets a canned response enforcing whatever view that council member has. The only thing I can figure ...

Ted, I can't agree with you more. As a retired Seattle native, I have attempted to communicate with the Council and Mayors' office for the last couple years. I innocently thought they were interested in citizen input. What a fool I was! I would have to say the funniest one ...

In my experience, this ship has sailed. The Seattle Police, with the support of Nick Licatas' office, confiscated my weapon (no charges, no crime) and refuse to return it. The city has already established a no gun policy.

Mr. Mayor: Please Read: I can only hope that the City Council and Mayor read this story. Their attitude of "how can we best further our own agenda, and spend tax money doing it" is getting tiresome. I have an investment property, and have been very careful with on how ...

One House at a Time: As a retired construction Laborer, I've worked on many commercial buildings in Seattle and Bellevue, so I'm not opposed to development. I am now on my second old home restoration and I feel I am making a contribution to preservation and affordable housing. Just the ...

Time to Modernize: I would love to see a good broadband network in this city. I recently moved a few blocks north from my home in Wallingford, where I had decent DSL, and found it became slower in my new house. The funny part of the article was "increasing citizen ...
