Inside King County's homeless count: the uncertainties and the lessons

Posted Wed, Feb 8, 9:24 p.m.

Sara90, nobody harumphed here. They asked a question and suggest that maybe shelter isn't the only issue here. I appreciate your concern but except for your undocumented story about a local shelter, you don;t provide any of the data you say was collected. If the shelters are full why isn't ...

Inside King County's homeless count: the uncertainties and the lessons

The question I never see answered in these counts and discussions are how many empty shelter beds are available at the same time of the count. Might change the conversation.

State putting pressure on D.C. to get real about medical marijuana

Posted Fri, Feb 3, 12:07 p.m.

The hypocrisy in all of this is astounding and it is all about the benjamins. The State, dispensaries & growers all want it to be regulated and/or taxed. They want marijuana to continue to be priced at $10 per gram ($280 per ounce) when it really can be produced for ...

Opponents of the Roosevelt Rezone, show your weapons

65 foot "towers." That's preposterous. Surely you jest, Ivan. — David Sucher David, stop being disingenuous. You know full well that RDG was vigorously lobbying for 15 stories (150') at the disputed site. 150' buildings would indeed "tower" over Roosevelt High School and the rest of the properties in the ...

Best of 2011: Can neighborhoods matter again in McGinn's Seattle?

Posted Fri, Dec 30, 9:36 p.m.

Also Jordan, let's be honest that while the Neighborhood Matching Fund is a great concept, it was undermined by the sheer size of the bureaucracy developed by Diers. A bureaucracy whose cost rivaled the matching fund itself and proved to be a pain in the butt to all who used ...

Best of 2011: Can neighborhoods matter again in McGinn's Seattle?

Jordan, I know you were not involved when the concept of the Department of Neighborhoods and the Neighborhood Matching Fund was established-neither was Jim Diers. That role was played by others not Jim Diers. Yes, Jim was the first Director hired by your dad Charlie but he was not involved ...

Density is your friend, Roosevelt

Posted Tue, Dec 20, 1:34 p.m.

Roger, I wish you or one of the density advocates could define for me how much density the region needs to support via tax base and ridership the system you all wax poetic about. You know the system that provides the access and flexibility to allow us to give up ...

Density is your friend, Roosevelt

I sometimes wonder if Roger and any or the density folks who all describe the Roosevelt as a single family neighborhood have ever been to the Roosevelt neighborhood and the area involved in the rezone. It is hardly just single family housing. There is a great deal of multi-family housing ...

Low-income? No farmers markets for you

Posted Wed, Dec 14, 12:36 p.m.

Mojourner, you can get organic, unprocessed goods often from the same or other local farmers much cheaper at your local QFC, Whole Foods etc. Farmers markets eliminate the middle man but result in higher prices.

Roger, we are so glad we have you to make us stop smoking, driving cars and having to live in high density rabbit warrens. Anything else we little people can do to help you achieve your version of utopia?

Seattle's car tabs: Will residents get their money's worth?

Posted Wed, Oct 26, 9:01 a.m.

Middleground: first off the money that Cascade Bike Club gets from the City is most likely fungible. Typical City contracts provides payments for overhead and administration which would otherwise have to be covered by by the Club. This frees up funds to be used to defray the cost of lobbying. ...

Seattle elections: still too much bland leading the bland

The current crop of candidates for City Council, both incumbents and challengers, have not provided any evidence that they are either understand or are interested in truly managing the City. None of them wants to talk about the elephant in the room - we are continuing to spend funds on ...
