I don't agree with Mayor Nichols on a lot of things, but when he took a leadership position on supporting the Kyoto Accords, and took his opinions to the National Conference of Mayors I was proud of him. He generated a lot of agreement, and exposed the glaring and irresponsible ...

It is sad the P.I. apparently will not survive in the traditional form but isn't also an opportunity? There are on-line business models for newspapers that are popular and successful, why not the P.I.?

Personally I'm in mourning at the thought the Seattle Times will be the only remaining MSM voice in Seattle. Why a right wing historically war mongering organization like Hearst ever wound up with a left leaning paper like the P.I. will forever be an unsolved mystery for me. But nonetheless ...

Okay I finally accept that today's my-way-or-the-highway political uber-Christians are just different from normal people. It has been obvious for years they as a group are not loyal to the ideas this country was founded upon, the Bill of Rights, and Constitution, and now I accept why, they just don't ...

Renaming prominent features in our region is a good idea, long over due, and fun too. Last summer I traveled from Kitsap Co. up to Hoona, Alaska on a forty foot salmon trawler, and then flew back, my first venture that far north. Both legs of my journey made it ...

national trends: No it is not a good year to be a Republican. CNN Rachel Maddow just reported that Dino Rossi and twenty five other Republican candidates across Washington State are refusing to use the word "Republican" on any official documents. Instead Rossi wants to use the term "GOP Party". ...

the times they are a changin': Yes, the business model of traditional newspapers is in trouble, and their search for answers is becoming increasingly desperate. Allowing reader comments on daily articles is one positive evolutionary step for newspapers toward a more successful formula. I enjoy posting in on line newspaper ...

flexibility: I'm all in favor of reforming states/counties in response to environmental, political, or economic changes. That is why the states and counties we have now were formed in the first place. It should be easier, for example, for rural King Co. folks to form their own new county in ...

nothing wrong: I see nothing wrong with Knute's article on Mike Webb. It's difficult for anybody to know the deeper truth to any man or woman, all he did was relate his own experiences.

ah, memories: I recall those four way street fountains from when I was a boy. They were very neat I thought, I used to stick my face in them to my mother's consternation, and I'm happy to see the city has retained them all these years. Portland is a nice ...

the big guys and the little guys: Sounds like Mr. Duvernoy has some swell friends. With lots of money. Including developers. And the backing of important political forces. Big politicians, big developers, big money...hmmm. Sounds like Mr. Duvernoy and his friends are taking the liberty of making plans for properties ...

Rupert the agent of mediocrity: I for one am happy Rupert Murdoch didn't buy the P.I. then there wouldn't be any newspapers in Seattle worth buying every day. He bought the Village Voice which owns Seattle Weekly which I used to enjoy. It took a while but they eventually fired ...
