Reveling in ex-M's failings

By Mike Henderson

April 15, 2008

Baseball schadenfreude, the best thing since Monday-morning quarterbacking, is sort of an anti-national pastime. It means perusing the box scores and reveling in the otherwise lamentable performances of former members of the Seattle Mariners organization.

Sunday (April 13) may have represented the apex of negative appreciation. Alex Rodriguez (Yankees) was 0 for 5; Ken Griffey Jr. (Reds) was 0 for 4, as were Jose Guillen (Royals) and Jason Varitek (Red Sox). Rich Aurilia (Giants) was 0 for 3, as was Ben Broussard (Rangers). Randy Winn (Giants) had a hit in three at-bats to avoid a complete ex-M's offensive collapse. Oh, and Adam Jones? The guy the M's gave the Orioles for Erik Bedard was 0 for 4 with four strike-outs. David Ortiz (Red Sox) also went hitless, seeing as how the .070 "hitter" was benched.
