Public Financing is Dead - Bury it.: Only Nixon could go to China they say, and maybe only Obama, one of the most liberal members of the Senate, could kill public campaign financing. At least, let's hope that's the outcome. Something like only 20-30% of taxpayers contribute to it by checking the box on their tax forms. That's not exactly a display of popularity. There's a tremendous conflict of interest in the government bankrolling the campaigns to choose the people who will run that government itself. Now that Obama has shown that public campaign financing is not The Peoples' last bastion of defense from Eeevil Republicans with dollar signs on their swollen vests, let's be done with it. Mister Campaign Finance Reform, John McCain, can complain all he wants about how unfair it is. That's what you get for putting your faith in government to micromanage campaigns.
