The 8th Congressional District race between Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert and Democratic challenger Darcy Burner is still razor-thin. With 139,315 total votes counted, Reichert leads 50.41 percent to 49.59 percent with 38 percent of precincts reporting.
Early results had shown Burner leading by as much as 6 percentage points, but after more King County votes were tallied, her lead evaporated quickly. The bulk of the remaining uncounted ballots will likely come from Pierce County, which doesn't bode well for Burner. Reichert has strong voter support in Pierce County, where he beat Burner by nearly 14 percent in the Aug. 19 primary election.
Reichert currently leads 54.46 percent to 45.54 percent in Pierce County, while Burner has a slim lead in King County, 50.62 percent to 49.38 percent. More results will be posted at 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
