Announcement: the Crosscut photo gallery

By Chuck Taylor

Next week, Crosscut will launch a photo gallery and feature an image from that gallery on the home page every day. We hope you'll contribute. We know you have a number of other news outlets with which to share photography, but we can give you something they can't — front-page play along with the day's other top news.

We've started a group on the Flickr photography site where you can share your pictures. (You must have a free Flickr account to participate. Info about Flickr here.) From the photos shared by group members, we'll pick a photo a day to feature on the home page of Crosscut. All of the featured photos will be collected in a gallery on a separate page of Crosscut. All other submissions will be viewable in the Flickr group.

The Flickr group is open now and we'd like to get some pictures queued up for next week.

We're interested in a wide variety of photos — of news, places, and events in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, British Columbia), including photojournalism, portraits, and scenics. We've posted a few of our own, but we're tired of looking at them and we know people out there can do better. So start sharing.

What's in it for you? We'll credit you, of course, and link to your personal Flickr page or another Web page. We get to use your photo on Crosscut, but you retain all other rights. Amateurs and pros alike are welcome to share, but unfortunately we don't have the budget to pay anybody at this point.

We'll fine-tune this as time passes. There's a discussion area on Flickr where we can hash out the fine points, or you can post general thoughts here.
