May Day march in downtown Seattle

Many causes on display on Fourth Avenue.

Several thousand people marched down Fourth Avenue in downtown Seattle on Thursday, May 1, 2008. Marchers represented a range of labor and environmental causes, with many advocating for immigrant rights. The sign held by the man at center says: "My name: Juan Pueblo. My hands and hard work talk for me. And just looking for dignity!! God bless America."

Crowd Estimates Off?

I was interested last night as I heard the estimated number of marchers in the May Day demonstrations in downtown Seattle to be in the "hundreds. "(KING-TV Early evening report.) As the pictures they were broadcasting and your still shots seem to show, there appear to be many more than a few hundred. Just wondered why the local news would be overly conservative in their numbers? Glad it was peaceful, however. The demonstrators in Olympia who defaced property certainly were not using anything but bad judgement (if they were thinking at all.)
