Was we 'robbed' by nature?

I couldn't help but laugh at this bold headline on CNN.com: "Gravity, erosion rob Utah park of popular arch." Why so funny? There wouldn't even be an Arches National Park if it wasn't for gravity and erosion. In fact, many of the West's most popular parks are monuments to gravity and erosion (think the Grand Canyon for one).

Seattle, you ignorant SLUT

Oregonian columnist Steve Duin has fun feeling superior to Seattle, calling the Big Bad City to the North "a mass transit basket case." But he does find something to praise, even if he drips with condescension, and that's the Seattle Streetcar, fondly known as the SLUT. Duin likes the idea, a steal from Portland, of course, not because it's a serious transit solution but because the name is so funny.

Sausage Links, 'text me ur VP selection' edition

It may come as no surprise that Republican U.S. Rep. Richard "Doc" Hastings isn't a real doctor – but did you know he's a college dropout? The folks at McCranium discovered that juicy detail in this Daily Record story about Hastings' recent commencement speech at Central Washington University. Since then, the blogosphere – comme d'habitude – has pounced.

Jumping the gun on the veepstakes

Sen. Barack Obama has announced that he will make his running-mate choice known via the Internet to his supporters and media before the Democratic national convention later this month. Sen. John McCain is expected, similarly, to make his choice known before the Republican convention a few days later.

Give the Seahawks the trophy, already

If the Seattle Seahawks play during the regular season the way they did for the first quarter of the Friday (Aug. 8) preseason game in Minneapolis, National Football League officials may just award them the Lombardi Trophy at mid-season and dispense with playoff games.
