Some campaign ads in support of Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi are making Democrats, government officials, law enforcement officers, and Native American tribes steaming mad. One of the ads, produced and paid for by the Republican Governor's Association (RGA), claims 1,300 sex offenders are on the loose thanks to Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire's administration. But Snohomish County prosecutor Mark Roe said that couldn't be further from the truth, or more poorly timed, since the governor recently signed into law a new DNA testing and electronic monitoring system for sex offenders. ...
You may have read in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer this morning that Republican gubernatorial challenger Dino Rossi could escape legal questioning over the Buildergate scandal, in which he allegedly coordinated with the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) to raise funds that were supposed to be independent of his campaign.
But the P-I reporters got it wrong.
One of Buddha's most interesting and helpful teachings, for me, was about the process of refining gold. He said that gold isn't refined in one step. Instead, first the big non-gold boulders are removed from a mix of metal and dirt. Then the smaller pebbles are removed and then the smaller ones, until, after multiple screenings, what is left is gold.
He's increasingly isolated politically and has his eye on global problems. On the other hand, he is turning into a rarity: a fearless foe of conventional wisdom who matters.
