The Sound Off is still burning up at the P-I Web site over the "Impeachment: If Not Now, When?" op-ed piece that ran at the top of the site's homepage over the weekend. Linda Boyd's piece didn't mince words and the prominent home page image of President Bush in mug shot frame, dressed in perp's clothing, didn't exactly mince pixels, either. The volume of back-and-forth over the item is worth reading if you're looking for an alternative to caffeine for the morning. What has us scratching our heads is the decision to run an op-ed item as the lead on a major daily homepage. Unprecedented when the tradition is to lead with hard news and save the opinions for inside. Or is that just old-fashioned thinking in a new-fashioned news environment?
