Meeghan Black was today named permanent host of KING TV'ês Evening Magazine. Black, a weather and traffic anchor at the station since 2000, replaces John Curley, who left the show in April after his contract was not renewed. Curley was recently elected to the Sammamish City Council.
KING'ês director of marketing and programming Rick Swanson said in May that that the station was putting a number of potential hosts through an audition process. Included in that group along with Black were Jim Dever, a longtime Evening correspondent who filled in for Curley on occasion; KING and Northwest Cable News anchor Meg Coyle; KING anchor Carolyn Douglas; KING sportscaster Lisa Gangel; and KING reporter Mimi Jung.
That KING TV, which is owned by Dallas-based Belo, would commit to a local program such as Evening by naming a permanent host is intriguing given the upheaval in traditional media. The specific terms, including length, of Black'ês contract were not announced.
Swanson could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon. Evening Magazine airs weekdays at 7 p.m.
