A CD release party celebrates young rising stars from this year's Sound Off! competition.

A few months back Crosscut reported on EMP'ꀙs Sound Off! competition, a battle of the bands for local musicians under the age of 21. The contest showcased some of the Northwest'ꀙs brightest rising stars, and tonight (May 6) you can see some of those musicians for free during the CD release show for Live From Sound Off! Volume Three.

The event, which takes place between 5 and 8 pm, will include acoustic sets from 2010 Sound Off! alumni Hooves and Beak, Candysound, Sea Fever, and the Cat From Hue. It'ꀙs impossible not to be won over by the beautiful and quirky songs of harp soloist Whitney Flinn (a.k.a. Hooves and Beak). I also highly recommend Candysound, a Bellingham a duo that plays compelling and emotional rock. All four of tonight'ꀙs performers are extremely talented, which makes this a must-see event for anyone who wants to get a glimpse at the future of local music.

Since this is a CD release show, Live From Sound Off! Volume Three will be on sale for $10. The album is a compilation that features performances from all 12 bands that participated in Sound Off! 2010. So not only will you get to see buzz-worthy local musicians you'ꀙll also get to take some of their music home. It'ꀙs also worth noting that EMP will be open during the event so you'ꀙll able to check out the museum'ꀙs rock-n-roll artifacts for free when you'ꀙre not busy enjoying the music.
