Back after a summer break, the monthly civic affairs discussion serves up hot topics in a fun atmosphere on Wednesday.

Our monthly news discussion, Civic Cocktail, will dig into three big subjects this week: crime, tech startups in the region and the Puget Sound area's marquee political race for mayor of Seattle.

On Wednesday, Crosscut, Seattle Channel and City Club will host the televised public affairs conversation at Tom Douglas' Palace Ballroom. The Seattle Times’ Joni Balter will speak with Police Chief Jim Pugel; former Seattle mayor Greg Nickels; Chris Devore, creator of Founders Co-Op, a tech-focused investment fund; Crosscut’s Knute Berger; West Seattle Blog’s Tracy Record and more.

Civic Cocktail is coming back from a summer break. In case you took a bit of your own vacation from the heavy local subjects, we've put together a bit of a reading list as a refresher on the event's topics.
