Sens. Pam Roach and Jim Hargrove co-hosted the annual trip to a shooting range, an event that Roach instituted years ago.

  • Even some lawmakers who support stricter gun regulations view the shootout as a team-building event.
  • Will the shootout help lawmakers reach an earlier compromise?  Probably not, says one budget negotiator.  Just as there's a large split on gun issues, there's a large philosophical divide between rural and urban legislators over the budget, taxes and transportation.

But it probably doesn't hurt to build some personal relationships as lawmakers enter negotiations in the next few weeks.
