Dr. Stein is a biologist with expertise in biodiversity conservation and climate change. He has been a global leader in the emerging field of climate adaptation, advising numerous U.S. federal agencies and international organizations on the practice of “climate-smart conservation.” Among his publications is the award-winning book Precious Heritage: The Status of Biodiversity in the United States.

Last summer, 60 experts who co-authored a study published in Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment said that for the long-term habitation of the planet, biodiversity loss was equally as critical than the challenge of climate change. America’s wildlife is in crisis - one we can reverse, though, if we look to solutions within reach rather than those that are far off.

The Cascade PBS Ideas Festival brings together journalists, newsmakers, and innovators from around the country to talk about the issues that are animating our cultural conversations.
