Here's an update on the House and Senate races in Washington state. First, however, let's look to Oregon.
In one of the closest Senate races in the country, U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., slightly trails Democratic challenger Jeff Merkley 48 percent to 47 percent, with an estimated 45 percent of votes counted.
In California, a majority of voters appear to support Proposition 8, the measure which would ban same-sex marriage in the state. But while current results show the measure leading 54 percent to 46 percent, 0 percent of precincts in San Francisco County 'ê basically, the city of San Francisco 'ê have been counted. Voters in the county are expected to strongly oppose the measure.
With 41 percent of votes counted, challenger Randy Dorn is leading incumbent Superintendent of Public Instruction Terry Bergeson 51 percent to 49 percent.
Also with 41 percent counted, Republican Public Lands Commissioner Doug Sutherland leads Democratic challenger Peter Goldmark 52-48.
Update: ABC News just called the governor's race for Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire. They're saying she won 52 percent to 48 percent. Take it with a grain of salt. Pierce County hasn't fully reported yet. Nor has King County. We may not hear for days who wins this race.
